A woman has filed for divorce from her husband, alleging that he deliberately closed food containers so tightly that she had to struggle a lot to open them and had to ask her neighbour for help. Sharing her experience in a now-deleted Reddit post, the woman said, “It wouldn’t be a big deal if he was there, but if I was alone, it would be very annoying. I’ve opened a new pot of something more times than I can count because I couldn’t open the pot.” After enduring the condition for five years, the woman revealed that the tightly closed lids caused her “major mental distress” and she would often reach a “breaking point”.
However, the husband justified his action by claiming that he had tightened the lids of the jars to “keep the food fresh”. The situation worsened when he had to leave home for 10 days without opening a single lid. The wife was forced to ask her neighbour for help, who suggested that her husband was probably tightening the lids on purpose. “It was in every jar, and I’m sure he doesn’t regularly use hot chilli paste or mango puree or any of your other fancy cooking stuff. Then he picked up the two jars he couldn’t open and said, ‘I don’t know why he’s doing this but it wasn’t an accident’,” the wife said as told by the neighbour. The woman immediately filed for divorce, adding that she would have reconsidered her decision if at least one of the jars had not been tightly sealed.

Redditors rallied in support of the wife. “No, you’re not getting divorced because of jar lids; you’re getting divorced because your husband is cheating on you for sport,” one user commented. “I just imagine this guy sneaking into a dark kitchen every night screwing on jar lids and laughing like crazy,” another commented.
