Openai has expressed concern over the growing misuse of its AI equipment, especially Chatgpt, to spread misinformation by groups associated with the Chinese government and to conduct secret effect operations worldwide. In a report released on Thursday, the company said that it had disrupted many such activities in the last three months, banning the accounts involved in these efforts. “We are looking at a wide variety of secret operations coming out of China, using a rapid diverse strategy,” said Ben Neeo, chief exploiter of the openiAI intelligence team. The company found four separate campaigns, supported by Chinese groups, with each different goals but all used AI in ways that violated the policies of OpenaiI.
One such campaign, surname Sayer Review, allegedly used pipes to post fake discussions on platforms such as Ticketkok, X, Redit and Facebook. The subjects clearly ranged from criticism of a Taiwan-based video game to the closure of the US Agency for International Development (USAID). The attempt was that it was an attempt to follow organic online conversations by generating both the initial positions and follow -up comments, causing a false sense of engagement.
In another case, Openai found that Chatgpt was used to write the impact operations of the operation – essentially underlining internal documents how the campaign was held. The company said, “The behavior we had seen online matched the processes described in these reports.”
AI was also used to generate comments about American political matters, including the criticism of US President Donald Trump’s trade tariff.
Other operations using Chatgpt to aid with cyber activities, such as modifying scripts, configuring the system and building a tool for brut-found passwords. Openai also discovered efforts to use the AI model for the intelligence gathering, where fake accounts designed to interact with real users as journalists or analysts. In an example, AI-borne materials were used in communication related to the correspondence of the American senator, although Openai could not confirm whether it was actually sent.
Since the launch of Chatgpt in late 2022, concerns have increased on the possibilities of generative AI to assist in misinformation. Openai is currently one of the most valuable private technical companies globally, and has recently gained funding that has given the firm price of $ 300 billion.
