OnePlus has clarified its update policy for the recently launched OnePlus 13 and OnePlus 13R smartphones, which addressed concerns how many Android updates can expect users. Initially, there was confusion after a report that the pre-installed Android version would be counted as one of the four promised updates, increasing the eyebrows between potential buyers. However, OnePlus has now cleared the issue.
The company has confirmed that both OnePlus 13 and 13R will get four full Android updates starting from Android 16. Although these devices come out of Android 15-based oxygenos 15 boxes, OnePlus clarified that pre-installed software would not be counted as part of the four-year upgradation cycle. Therefore, users are ready to receive all the updates for Android 19. In addition, the phone is also set to get a six -year safety patch, so they remain preserved and up -to -date for a long time.
Apart from the smartphone, OnePlus also shared details about its smartwatch. Both OnePlus Watch 2 and Watch 3 will get three -year software updates. Watch 2, which comes with Wearos 4, will get updates updates updates with quarterly security patch for three years, with ending in 2026. Watch 3, launching with Wearos 5, similarly will receive updates update to Wearos 7, with quarterly security patch 2027.
With this, OnePlus assured users that the OnePlus 13 series would receive software support for four Android versions, without counting pre-installed software as part of that promise.
When compared to other brands, Google and Samsung offer long -term support, while the Apple usually provides iPhones with a five -year software update with a seven -year OS update for its major equipment.
In a recent statement shared on social media, OnePlus reiterated its objective of keeping the OnePlus 13 series updated, confirming that “users may expect to get Android 16, 17, 18, and 19 as part of our commitment to four Android upgrades and six years of security updates.”
