Nepal’s first surgical robot installed at B&B Hospital
Nepal’s first surgical robot manufactured by SS Innovation has been installed at B&B Hospital in Lalitpur.

The first surgical robot in Nepal has been installed at B&B Hospital in Gwarko, Lalitpur. The surgical robot has been manufactured by SS Innovation, a medical technology company that developed India’s first indigenous surgical robotic system called SSI Mantra in 2017.
Doctors say the move could bring a change in the way surgery is done in Nepal.
“We are pleased to announce that B&B Hospital has become the first institution in Nepal to install the state-of-the-art SSI Mantra robotic surgical system. This advanced technology will help perform several key specialized surgeries, greatly improving patient care,” said Dr Jagadish Lal Baidya, co-founder of B&B Hospital.

Commenting on the establishment of SSI Mantra in Nepal, Dr. Vishwa Srivastava, President and COO of SS Innovations, said, “We are very proud to be able to provide this much-needed technology to our Himalayan neighbors to the north. We are confident that the excellent doctors at B&B Hospital will help raise the level of care in Nepal.”
SSI Mantra Surgical Robotic System helps Indian doctors perform complex surgeries with high precision and ease.
Speaking to IndiaToday.in, Dr Sudhir Prem Srivastava, founder of SSI, said robotic surgery, which is becoming increasingly popular, helps patients go home the next day.

The Indian surgical robot is a modular design with over 5 different arms, which can also be helpful in heart surgery.
The surgeon sits at the console station, which has a 32-inch monitor and 3D vision. It also has a security camera that detects the doctor’s presence. If the doctor looks away, the surgery will stop automatically.
3D vision reduces mistakes and accidents. The instruments used in the surgery are 8 mm in size.
Before the SSI Mantra surgical robot was developed, the highly expensive da Vinci Surgical System manufactured by the US-based company Intuitive Surgical was primarily used for many surgeries.
