Mohanlal’s ‘Barroz’ will now release on Navratri
Mohanlal-starrer Malayalam fantasy drama ‘Barroz’ is set to release during Navratri this year. The actor announced the film’s new release date in a social media post on Saturday, August 17.

Malayalam actor Mohanlal on Friday announced the new release date of his upcoming film “Barroz”. The film will release on October 2, marking the beginning of the nine-day Navratri festival this year. It marks the directorial debut of the actor, known to fans as Lalettan.
‘Barrows’ was earlier scheduled to release on March 28, 2024. However, the film’s team decided to postpone the release citing delays in post-production. Earlier this year, Mohanlal and other team members were sent a legal notice by a German-based Malayalam writer alleging copyright infringement. The film’s team never responded to the allegations in the media.

Interestingly, the film was earlier directed by filmmaker Jijo Punnoose, who also took credit for the originality of the story. However, he later announced in a blog that Mohanlal had taken the reins from him, after rewriting the script over 20 times to suit the superstar’s vision.
‘Barroz’ is reportedly based on a book written by Jijo, which is based on a popular myth about a deity called Kapiri Muthappan, who lives in the Kochi Fort to protect the hidden treasure of his Portuguese masters. Mohanlal plays the role of Kapiri, the protector of the treasure. The story also involves a little girl who is the only person to see and talk to the ghost.
It is a 3D fantasy drama. The cinematography of the film is done by Santosh Sivan, while the music is composed by Lydian Nadhaswaran and Mark Killian. ‘Barrows’ is produced by Antony Perumbavoor under the banner of Aashirvaad Cinema.
