Actor Mohanlal, along with director Sathyan Anthikad, reached Ernakulam Town Hall on Saturday afternoon to pay their last respects to veteran actor and filmmaker Sreenivasan, whose mortal remains was kept there for the public to pay their respects. Visuals of an emotional Mohanlal crying inside the hall have gone viral, reflecting the deep personal loss he felt in the Malayalam film industry.
Srinivasan, who died at the age of 69 after a prolonged illness, died at a hospital in Kochi, where he was undergoing treatment. A legendary personality in Malayalam cinema, he was widely acclaimed as an actor, screenwriter and filmmaker whose work left a lasting cultural impact. His demise sparked a wave of mourning among colleagues, fans and prominent personalities from the film fraternity.

The bond between Sreenivasan, Mohanlal and Sathyan Anthikad has been celebrated by the audience for a long time. After Sreenivasan’s demise, Mohanlal shared a long and heartfelt note on Facebook, reflecting on his close relationship with the late actor-director and the void left behind by his absence. Tributes poured in from across the industry, many of whom remembered Sreenivasan’s sharp social satire, humane storytelling and his ability to bring relatable, everyday characters to life.

In a career spanning nearly five decades, Sreenivasan has acted in over 225 films, and has earned praise for his performances that continue to resonate with audiences. His contributions helped shape modern Malayalam cinema, earning him a permanent place in its history.
According to reports, Srinivasan’s last rites will be performed with state honors at his residence in Thripunithura on December 21 at 10 am.
