Director Shankar was recently seen at an event for the novel Velpari, which revealed the details about his Magnum Opus. The director revealed that his dream project was once, but now, it is Velpari.

Speaking at the event reported by cinema Vikan, Shankar said, “Once, my dream project was Thru. Now, my dream project is Velpari. Whenever a big budget film is made, people will say that it will be a grand venture like Chandlekha (1948), but in fact Velpari will be even bigger or bigger.”
“As far as I believe, the film can be one of the biggest undertakings ever, due to the dress, the elements of the art, and it will need to be made. However, the scope of technology tells me that Velpari will be a global standard film that will be in the choice of game of throne or avatar,” he said.
What did Rajinikanth say about Shankar’s contribution to Tamil cinema?
Speaking as the chief guest at the event, Rajinikanth was given a speech on how Shankar is one of the directors responsible for the development of Tamil cinema in the 1990s.
Superstar said, “Bharthiraja, Mani Ratnam, and Shankar heads are making waves in the 90s cinema. We were the three films together. As Shankar is going to direct Velpari, I am eagerly waiting for it.”
For those unknown people, Velpari is the much awaited film by director Shankar, based on the novel Veera Uga Nayagon Well Perry by Su Venkatson. The story in the film is how Cherus, Chola, and Pandyas Empire wanted to dry the tribal king Well innings and what happened due to this.
On the work front
Coming into director Shankar’s filmography, the experienced filmmaker was last seen to be a political actioner game changer. The Ram Charan starrer was a box office defeat and generally received a negative review.
On the other hand, Rajinikanth, Lokesh is the next set to appear in the lead role for the cool directed by Kanagaraja. The film is scheduled to release on August 14, 2025.
