Kannada TV actor Charith Balappa arrested for sexual harassment, extortion
Television actor Charitha Balappa, known for Kannada and Telugu serials, was arrested after an actress accused her of harassment, extortion and threats. Police investigate incidents spanning more than a year.

Kannada television actor Charitha Balappa, known for his role in the popular regional serial “Muddulakshmi” and acting in Telugu serials, has been arrested on charges of sexual harassment, assault, extortion and criminal intimidation. The arrest came following a complaint lodged by the 29-year-old actress, police confirmed on Friday.
According to the police, the alleged incidents occurred in the period from November 1, 2023 to December 13, 2024. The actress, who has worked in both Telugu and Kannada serials, said in her complaint that she first met Balappa in 2017. Was also an actor in the industry.
The complainant accused Balappa of exploiting her good nature and forcing her to have physical relations by threatening to defame her if she refused. The FIR further alleged that Balappa, knowing that she lived alone, once entered her house with his associates, harassed her and created ruckus.
The actress also claimed that Balappa demanded money from her and threatened to share her private photos on social media and in a WhatsApp group, which also included other actors. Additionally, she accused him of using his alleged connections with influential persons, including politicians, rowdy elements and police officers, to intimidate him. According to the complaint, Balappa threatened to file false cases against her and also hinted at putting her in jail.
The FIR states that Balappa, a divorcee, mentally tortured the actress, physically assaulted her and threatened her with death. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case at Rajarajeshwari Nagar police station under several sections of the Indian Justice Code, including voluntarily causing hurt, extortion, criminal intimidation and sexual harassment.
“The accused actor has been arrested and further investigation is underway,” a police officer said.
