Kabir Khan is one of the most acclaimed directors in the industry, known for making some of the most loved blockbuster films. Recently, he took a trip down memory lane and recalled not meeting Yash Raj Films’ Aditya Chopra regarding Kabul Express. He recalled a humorous incident where, at the time, people believed that Yash Chopra had invented a mythological figure named Aditya Chopra to scare others, and no one was sure he actually existed. Was it or not?
In a conversation with Sucharita Tyagi, Kabir recalled that he had approached various studios except Yash Raj Films for Kabul Express, as he felt that they would have no interest in making such a film and he did not know about Aditya Chopra’s existence. Also remembered an infamous joke about.
He said, “So, there was one studio where I didn’t go, that was Yash Raj Films, because there was a joke there that Aditya Chopra doesn’t exist; he is being created by Yash Chopra just to scare people.”
After this, Kabir recalled his experience of meeting Aditya Chopra and said that on entering the office, a woman told him that Aditya was waiting for him.
He clearly remembers the moment he stepped into the room of the great Aditya Chopra, who was standing behind his desk cleaning his reading glasses. Aditya looked at him and expressed his appreciation towards Kabir’s script and said that it had impressed him and asked when they could start making the film.
The New York director said he has been transparent about his intentions from the beginning. When he asked about hiring a writer, Aditya questioned the need for a writer, saying that he wanted Kabir to write exactly what he had written.
As a result, Kabir became a writer by default, and that explains how things progressed after Kabul Express.
Khan has carved a unique niche in the film industry by directing influential films like Kabul Express, Ek Tha Tiger, New York, Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Chandu Champion. His ability to tell engaging stories with cultural themes has earned him critical acclaim and a special place among India’s top filmmakers.
