He then recalled a conversation with a famous businessman about Bollywood’s silence on Operation Sindoor. The businessman asked him about Bollywood’s silence, where many nationalist films are made.
“First, the word ‘Bollywood’ itself is an anti-national name. You call the Indian film industry ‘Bollywood’? In the world, if there is any industry that can compete with Hollywood, it is an Indian film industry. It is almost erased European cinema. Our films have been released in 136-137 countries and you call it.”
Javed Akhtar also pointed to the hypocrisy of the people, saying that the performing artists are expected to prove their patriotism by standing a stand. Accepting that it involves risk, he said, “And if you like to say that a person should speak on every issue – then stand up and tell me, in the last 15 years, you are a businessman, have you ever spoken against the policy, taxation, or a rule of the government, or you are not saying that you expect you to speak?”
