During India’s Operation Sindor, an attack against Pakistan terrorist sites, many Bollywood actors were criticized for their silence.

The experienced also said that when people are following different girls, they may not have time to update what is going on in the country. “Look, when I was younger, even though I came from a politically aware and very vocal family. But when my films were being a hit one after the other, I didn’t know what is going on in politics. I probably didn’t even read the newspaper. So it happens,” he said.

Going forward, he said, “Some people are busy in their work. If they are not speaking, it should happen. What is the big deal? Some people are speaking.

He then recalled a conversation with a famous businessman about Bollywood’s silence on Operation Sindoor. The businessman asked him about Bollywood’s silence, where many nationalist films are made.

“First, the word ‘Bollywood’ itself is an anti-national name. You call the Indian film industry ‘Bollywood’? In the world, if there is any industry that can compete with Hollywood, it is an Indian film industry. It is almost erased European cinema. Our films have been released in 136-137 countries and you call it.”

Javed Akhtar also pointed to the hypocrisy of the people, saying that the performing artists are expected to prove their patriotism by standing a stand. Accepting that it involves risk, he said, “And if you like to say that a person should speak on every issue – then stand up and tell me, in the last 15 years, you are a businessman, have you ever spoken against the policy, taxation, or a rule of the government, or you are not saying that you expect you to speak?”

Javed Akhtar has always been vocal about many issues in the country.
