Superstar Rajinikanth is currently working on his next release, Jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. Since the film is a sequel to 2023’s Jailer, it appears that the main antagonist of the first installment, Varman, played by Vinayakan, may also make an appearance.

Vinayakan confirmed to be a part of Jailer 2

Ahead of his next release, Kalamkaval with Mammootty, Vinayakan told Reporter TV that he is indeed a part of Jailer 2. The actor stressed that he will be seen in the Rajinikanth starrer but cannot give details about the film at the moment. He also said that despite being a villainous character, his character Varman in Jailer is one of his favorite comedy roles.

Mohanlal joins the shooting of Jailer 2

As the production of Jailer 2 continues, Mohanlal was recently seen stepping out to join the shoot. The actor is all set to reprise his role as Matthew in the first installment, as he is traveling to film his cameo in the sequel as well.

The veteran star was seen heading towards the sets when designer Jishad Shamsuddin shared a selfie with him on the flight. Interestingly, Mohanlal has recently completed the shooting of his film Drishyam 3.

More about Jailer 2

Jailer 2 is an upcoming Tamil-language action comedy starring Rajinikanth in the lead role. The film serves as the sequel to Jailer (2023), which was a major blockbuster at the box-office.

The sequel will reportedly follow Muthuvel Pandian as he faces even greater threats than the first installment, promising intense action and bloodshed. It is expected that apart from Rajinikanth and Laleton, Shiv Rajkumar will also be seen reprising his role from the first film in the film. Additionally, Mithun Chakraborty and Vidya Balan are also likely to play important roles.

Reportedly, Nandamuri Balakrishna was expected to play a cameo in the film. However, it has been speculated that he has opted out of the role, and rumor has it that Vijay Sethupathi may play the role in his place.

Although more details about the film have not been revealed yet, it is expected that the film will be released in theaters by mid-2026.

Looking ahead, Rajinikanth will be seen in the lead role in a film tentatively titled Thalaivar173, co-produced by Kamal Haasan. The project is expected to be directed by Ramkumar Balakrishnan of Parking fame.
