Irrfan shot Angrezi Medium in severe pain, says costume designer: He was ill
Costume designer Smriti Chauhan has shared how Irrfan continued shooting for Angrezi Medium despite intense pain and deteriorating health, requiring frequent costume adjustments for comfort.

Costume designer Smriti Chauhan recently talked about her experience of working with Irrfan during an episode of Emerging Talents (UT) Digital commentary on YouTube channel. He recalled that his condition continued to worsen during shooting, and people working with him could see the effect it was having on his body.
“He was in a lot of pain when we were shooting english mediumThe only thing he said to me was, ‘Smriti, I feel very cold’, so he told me about this one brand in London, and he said please get me a warmer from there and I said sure, He kept shrinking even during the shooting of the film, We had to add a lot of padding to his clothes at that stage, Even though we gave her a lot of layers, we still had to add a lot of padding,” she said,
Smriti said that as the filming progressed, Irrfan’s weight loss and physical weakness became apparent. Even scenes depicting summer required special costume adjustments to keep her warm and comfortable.
He further added that there were days when the shooting had to be canceled because Irrfan was unable to reach the set despite his determination to work. His pain often became overwhelming, even though his will to continue never waned.
“In the film, we gave him a vest to wear for all the summer scenes, and it also had padding on it. He was ill. His family was around him most of the time and sometimes, during the shoot, he would take leave because he was not able to deal with it. It has been many days english medium When we couldn’t shoot because he couldn’t reach the set despite trying. He was in a lot of pain and I think he believed that this is what I live for and I probably want to die doing this and I think he did.’
