The Indian Embassy in Italy on Monday expressed condolences over the “unfortunate demise” of Satnam Singh.
“The Embassy is aware of the unfortunate death of an Indian national in Latina, Italy. We are in touch with local authorities. Efforts are underway to contact the family and provide consular assistance,” the post said.

Satnam Singh, aged between 30 and 31, was injured on Monday while working on a farm in Latina, a rural area south of Rome where thousands of Indian migrant workers live. Instead of helping Satnam Singh, his employers “dumped him like a bag of rubbish” near his home, AFP reported, citing a statement by Flei CGIL that compared the situation to a “horror movie.”
Italian Labor Minister Marina Calderone called the incident “a true act of barbarism” in parliament.
“An Indian farm worker who suffered a serious accident in a rural area of Latina and was left in very critical conditions has died,” AFP quoted Marina Calderon as saying.
He further said that authorities were investigating the incident and expressed hope that those responsible for the act would be punished.
Police said Satnam Singh’s wife and friends called them and an air ambulance was dispatched. He was taken to a hospital in Rome but died shortly after noon local time on Wednesday, a police spokesman in Latina told AFP.
Satnam Singh was working on the farm without legal documents.
The centre-left Democratic Party condemned the way Satnam Singh was treated in a region known for worker exploitation and called it a “defeat of civilisation”.
