3 main reasons for weight gain after exercise:

Nutritionist Simrun Chopra on her Instagram handle ‘simrun.chopra’ tried to simplify and categorise the reasons into three basic points.

1. Water retention:

When you exercise, you lose water, which makes you feel dehydrated. So you automatically increase your water and electrolyte consumption, which increases your water weight.

2. Overeating:

While exercising, many people think that it is okay to overeat. But this is not true. Overeating means that you add more calories to your diet, which if not burned properly can lead to fat accumulation in the body.

3. Underestimating what you’re burning:

As mentioned, you need to burn as many calories as you eat. According to Simran Chopra, “we can eat as many calories in less than five minutes as we burn in a workout session”. Therefore, it is important to limit your calorie intake to avoid unnecessary weight gain.

4 Expert Tips To Lose Weight:

1. Give your body time to adjust:

We understand that you feel very hungry during the initial days of weight loss. But, believe me, this is the time when you should control yourself. You should control your untimely hunger to avoid excessive calorie intake. Instead, be patient and give your body some time to adapt to the change.

2. Eat more protein:

Simran Chopra says protein is your “friend”. It is important to include adequate amounts of vegetarian or non-vegetarian protein of your choice in each meal. She says, “Here’s a secret, if you want to eat more, eat this portion first.”

3. Include mid-meal snacks in your diet:

The idea is to eat small but multiple meals to make the most of the nutrients and digest them well. Hence, it is important to include mid-morning and evening snacks to maintain a sustainable diet regime.

4. Increase your activity:

Simran Chopra says that you can easily burn 500 calories by doing just a little exercise. You just have to make some simple changes like taking the stairs instead of the lift when going somewhere.
