Recent surveys show that US Vice President Kamala Harris has been successful in reducing Donald Trump’s lead in the last few weeks. Harris has been successful in uniting the Democratic voters ahead of the big battle in November. Trump and his team have not lost their momentum and are gearing up to target her.
Trump campaign pollster Tony Fabrizio called it the “Harris honeymoon.”
Following Joe Biden’s exit from the presidential election, Republicans are focusing their attack on Kamala Harris.
“San Francisco Radicals”

Donald Trump’s team has been focusing on Harris’ left-wing stance during the 2020 presidential election campaign. In 2019, in an effort to resonate with Democratic primary voters, she supported policies like eliminating private health insurance, reforming policing, decriminalizing undocumented entry, and supporting the Green New Deal. Now, these positions are being used against her by opponents like David McCormick and Donald Trump, who released a video titled “Meet San Francisco’s Radical Kamala Harris.”
Kamala Harris as Prosecutor
Harris’s background as a prosecutor and California attorney general has also come under fire. She has used this experience to criticize Trump in the past. Now, Trump’s campaign, led by Chris LaCivita, is targeting Harris’ years as a prosecutor, including her tough stance on drug crimes disproportionately affecting black men and instances where she did not prosecute or parole repeat offenders.
“Border Tsar”
Another approach Republicans are taking is to link Kamala Harris to the unpopular decisions and policies of the Joe Biden administration. They are linking her to issues such as immigration policies and inflation, thereby burdening her own record as vice president.
Republicans have dubbed him the “border czar” for his past comments on immigration. Taylor Budovich of the Trump campaign has announced a $32 million ad campaign targeting him.
The Trump campaign’s Tony Fabrizio argues that Harris cannot escape her past actions and promised that voters will soon see her as a “partner and co-pilot” to Biden, who has a “dangerously liberal record.”
Trump vs. Harris: Survey
The latest polls show a close race between Trump and Harris. A Wall Street Journal poll shows the two tied at 49% to 47%, with a margin of plus or minus of 3.1 percentage points.
A New York Times/Siena College poll conducted between July 22-24 shows Trump leads Harris 48% to 47% in a head-to-head contest among likely voters. An unaudited average of polls conducted after Biden dropped out of the presidential race shows Harris trailing Trump by 1.6 percentage points, according to Bloomberg.
Harris is expected to get 69% of registered black voters, up from Biden’s 59% last month. She has also increased her party’s share of Hispanic voters from 45% to 57% and the share of voters under the age of 30 from 46% to 56%. This could boost her chances in the election.
