Teachers’ Day is celebrated every year on September 5 to honour the contribution of teachers in our lives. The day also marks the birth anniversary of Dr Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan. Over the years, Bollywood has portrayed many memorable teacher characters, some of which have become iconic. These characters often remind us of real-life teachers, don’t they?

Let us give you some examples. If you have seen a female teacher walking around the school building in beautiful organza saris, you might have remembered Sushmita Sen’s character Miss Chandni. Isn’t it? If not, you might have found a teacher who teaches in a fun way like Ram Shankar Nikumbh from Tare Zameen Par, right?

This Teachers’ Day, we have compiled a list of 8 teachers who remind us of our school days:

1. The one that is everyone’s favourite- Ram Shankar Nikumbh from Tare Zameen Par

Raise your hand if you had a teacher like Ram Shankar Nikumbh. Aamir played Ram Shankar Nikumbh in Tare Zameen Par, an art teacher who helped dyslexic student Ishaan Awasthi unleash his potential.

2. The one who always comes on a scooter- Santosh Duggal (Do Dooni Chaar)

Rishi Kapoor’s character Santosh Duggal is one of the most iconic teachers in Bollywood. From reaching school on a scooter and taking coaching classes to earn extra money to being bribed by a student and struggling to buy a car, Duggal sahab was one of the most relatable teachers in Bollywood history.

3. Foodie – Babubhai Verma from Stanley Ka Dabba

This will surely remind you of that teacher who was obsessed with food in your school days. Amol Gupte as Babubhai Verma in Stanley Ka Dabba is relatable to those who have seen a food-obsessed teacher.

4. The one who is always tough and strict- Veeru Sahastrabuddhe (3 Idiots)

We all had strict teachers like Veeru Sahastrabuddhe in school. Such teachers were soft at heart but always motivated us to work hard and stay disciplined in school. Don’t you know?

5. The one who loves to wear gorgeous saris- Ms Chandni from Main Hoon Na

If you drool over the beautiful sarees of your favourite teacher in school, then you are not alone. Most of the students had a crush on Miss Chandni of their school. Yes, this teacher who looked amazing in a saree had her female students crazy about her.

6. The one with a unique accent – Miss Braganza (Kuch Kuch Hota Hai)

Many students were taught by teachers who always flaunted their unique accents, which they always seemed proud of. Some of them had a very unique accent, like Miss Braganza from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Remember “Rahul! Pyaar Kya Hai?”?

7. The one who is newly married/soon to be married – Miss Rosie from Stanley Ka Dabba

New saree, chooda, mehendi! There was always a newly married teacher who would come to school decked up from head to toe. Most of us also had a teacher who was going through a love affair. Can you ever forget the smile that was always on their faces?

8. The one who has a crush on his colleague – Montu Singh Hooda from Chhalaang

And then there was the PT teacher who was infatuated with his female colleague. Rajkummar Rao as physical training instructor Montu Singh Hooda in Chhalaang was an apt example of such a teacher.

No matter how good or not our teachers are, their contribution in shaping our future will always be remembered. Who was your favourite teacher?
