Actor Kalki Kochlin has called for a recession in Bollywood, highlighting stalled projects, job loss and a creative crisis. He emphasized the need of the industry to adapt to the changing audience habits and detect new formats such as VR.

Actor Kalki Kochlin has talked about the ongoing struggles in the Hindi film industry, calling the current stage a fully developed “Bollywood recession”.

But speaking Alena breaks down Podcast, Coclin highlighted what the projects have stopped and are uncertain about the professional future.

“There is a Bollywood recession; that’s why they are releasing everything again. There is no material. It is not working. So, everything is stalled. Even they know, but they are scared. They don’t know what is working, what is working. So, everything is stalled, everything is stuck,” he said.

Kochlin described Bollywood as a disturbed film industry that is lost and uncertain. He said that the audience habits are changing rapidly, in which small videos are becoming more popular than all the films. Because of this, even big budget films are finding it difficult to release, and many small actors and crew members have not done stable work for years.

“The creative teams are being fired, and are being hired again. They don’t just know why this is not working. And people do not realize that this crisis is going on. And from top to bottom, I have spoken to people. At the top, people are spending crores of money and are not looking for platforms to release them. Pseudo (Small) actors who did not work in two years, “he said.

Kochlin’s views are similar to her ex -husband, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, recently. He shared that he was disappointed with the lack of fresh and creative ideas in Bollywood. So he has now focused his attention to South Indian cinema, where he feels that more new and exciting work is being done.

Kalki Kochlin was last seen in the 2023 film ‘Kho Gay Hum Kahan’, directed by Arjun Varrane Singh.
