Popular American singer and musician Elle King opened up about her strained relationship with her father, Rob Schneider. In a preview of an upcoming episode of Bunny Exo’s Dumb Blonde podcast, the 35-year-old Ex’s & Oh’s singer revealed how her father, now 60, sent her to obesity camp as a child.
In a TikTok clip from the episode shared on August 10, Elle King revealed that she was a fat kid and her father sent her to fat camp. She recalled that she suffered for a year due to her inability to lose weight after spraining her ankle, describing the experience as toxic and senseless. King also revealed that she sometimes wouldn’t speak to her father for four or five years, partly due to disagreements over their social views.
Elle King disagreed with many of her father’s views, particularly on issues like drag and anti-gay rights. She said, “He’s just spouting his nonsense, and I want to make it clear that I don’t agree with him.” Meanwhile, on 50 First Dates, Schneider’s reps did not respond to requests for comment.
Elle King was raised primarily in Ohio by her mother London King and stepfather Justin Tessa. She reconnected with her father Rob Schneider as an adult after a strained relationship during her childhood. Recalling her time with her father, King said that when she spent summers with her father, she often felt ignored on film sets and would get in trouble if she accidentally interrupted a scene.
Elle King recalled how when she was away at summer school and returned home, her father Rob Schneider forgot every single one of her birthdays, including her 18th. In 2018, she shared that they had grown closer after she left a destructive marriage and struggled with substance abuse and mental health issues. However, in a recent clip, King mentioned that they often went years without speaking and said, “He never helped me,” though she clarified, “I never wanted his help.”
Worth a Short Song singer Elle King shared that she doesn’t want to associate with his father Rob Schneider due to his bad reputation, saying, “He’s just not nice.” In the clip, King also discussed her attempts to repair their relationship, trying various methods such as writing letters and soft talking, but was often rejected. She reflected that while you may wish for someone to change, you can’t control their actions or feelings, only how you react. Sometimes, she admitted, her frustration makes her boil over and explode.
