Dulquer Salmaan reveals what happened during the OTT debut of Loca Chapter 1: Chandra
Sharing how difficult it has become to involve multiple parties with big budget films, Dulquer Salmaan also shared the reason behind the delay in Loca’s OTT debut and how they were on the verge of losing money on the project. "Our budget doubled and no one wanted to buy the film. We didn’t have any big platform. Me and Tovi (Tovino Thomas) had to ‘cushion’ it. But still, they were like, ‘You guys are barely there for that many minutes.’" He further explained how the total minutes of his presence are scrutinized during negotiations, along with many other minutes that are also considered while striking a deal. "They say, if you’re only there for so many minutes, we’ll only pay X amount.
Sharing how he has been a part of conversations where every last minute of his appearance was considered, and even scenes had to be deleted to suit the agreement, thereby reducing his screen time.
Meanwhile, Loca Chapter 1: Chandra was a huge hit at the box office when it released on August 28 earlier this year. However, it got on OTT platforms much later, on October 31, when it started streaming on JioHotstar. Starring Kalyani Priyadarshan, Naslen, Sandy, Arun Kurian and Chandu Salim Kumar, it featured cameos by several stars, making it a superhit. Meanwhile, Loca 2 is currently in its planning stage with Tovino’s character, Chathan, central to the sequel, and Dulquer Salmaan expected to reprise his role as Charlie.
