Director Mohan ji seeks clarification from Chinmayi on apology over Draupadi 2 song controversy

Director Mohan ji has urged singer Chinmayi Sripada to issue a clear explanation for her recent apology after the performance of the song mkoni for his upcoming film Draupadi 2Chinmayi apologized on social media, saying that she was unaware of the details of the project at the time of her collaboration, The incident follows criticism of Chinmayi for being associated with a film directed by Mohanji, who has been criticized for allegedly glorifying casteism and honor killing in his films,

Mohan ji responded by releasing a video statement, expressing his admiration for Chinmayi’s work and clarifying that he specifically wanted her to lend her voice for the single. He explained that although he was not present during the recording, his team members were there to guide him through the song.

Mohan ji said, “Chinmayee did not ask for clarification from me or the music director (Ghibran Vaibodha). It was a surprise for us, because she had no idea what the film was about, and she could have asked us.” He said he had expected a response from Chinmayi after facing criticism online for her involvement.

Chinmayi addressed the controversy through a post on Social media users questioned his involvement, leading to his public statement distancing himself from the film’s point of view.

The director also addressed Chinmayi’s reference to ‘conflicting ideologies’, noting that the concept of faith is central to her film. He commented that, to his knowledge, Chinmayi had not made any statements against the faith, and questioned which aspect of the film he found to be in conflict with his own beliefs.

Mohan ji further explained that he had made the video to ask Chinmayi to clarify her apology, which suggests that her statement may have been due to external pressure. He stressed that his intention was to seek clarification, not to escalate the controversy.

Mohan ji reiterated that he is requesting clarification from Chinmayi, so that his film is not affected. He also commented that technicians or others who contributed to the film should not be targeted, and should be held accountable if their ideologies are being targeted.
