Criticism focuses on Achiamma’s style of writing and filming, while the film gives a larger socio-political aspect to Ram. instagram page referral community shared a post on pedi With the title, “pedi: The costliest insult ever to a leading lady in Indian cinema.”
The post criticized the Rs 350 crore film for presenting the denial of human identity as a systemic evil and denying Achiamma the same humanity. It also says that Ram gets a socio-political crusade while Janhvi gets a midriff close-up.
A part of the post reads, “It’s easy to blame an actress for the roles she takes, but the actual timeline tells a different story. Reports suggest that Janhvi Kapoor clearly questioned these shots during post-production, a limitation that perfectly mirrors her recent public stance against the industry’s habit of over-sexualizing women.”
“She towed a professional line, but the footage was kept in the final edit anyway. This isn’t a case of an actress failing to stand up for herself. This is a director ignoring a boundary because he decided her consent mattered less than her box office numbers,” the Post concluded.

Kapoor did not comment on the post, but several users noted that they had liked it and read it as agreement. “Loved Janhvi Kapoor,” one person commented with a crying emoji. Another wrote, “Has Janhvi Kapoor liked this post? This is an insult to TFI.”
Although there are viral screenshots of his likes on the post, it is no longer visible on the Instagram page.
There is also a focus on criticism pedi‘s love track, which viewers said was devoid of consent. In the movie, pedi Says he wants to touch Achiamma without her consent because she will never agree to love him and his father will never agree to their marriage. Later during a power cut he kisses her without consent. When Achiamma cries, another male character tells her to forget it for the sake of her father’s political career.
Since the premiere, many social media users have asked whether pedi Doing this to Achiamma amounts to assault, especially because another character is made the villain for violating her in a different scene. So the reaction around the film focused on both its treatment of its female lead and Kapoor’s apparent agreement with posts criticizing how her character was portrayed in the final cut.
India Today, in its review of the film, wrote, “The film’s biggest problem, however, is neither technical nor narrative. It is Janhvi Kapoor’s character. The issue is not just that the romantic track feels disconnected from the central story. The issue is how the character is conceived and presented. Almost every scene featuring her seems to be built around objectification rather than character development.”
pedi Released theatrically on June 4, 2026.
