The Long Game actor Dennis Quaid wants to make a sequel to The Parent Trap, but he doubts it will happen because Natasha Richardson has passed away. Speaking at the premiere of his new film Reagan, Quaid mentioned that it’s hard to imagine making a sequel without Richardson, who died in 2009. He said her death still breaks his heart.
Quaid and Richardson played the parents of Lindsay Lohan’s character in the 1998 remake of The Parent Trap. Quaid praised Lohan, 38, saying she has become a wonderful person.
He also mentioned the possibility of a sequel, in which his character could give a vineyard to his daughters, but he’s not sure that will happen. Despite this, Quaid believes the legacy of the 1998 film is very strong.
“The Parent Trap was a huge milestone for my career,” Quaid said. “It’s very close to my heart and a beautiful movie. I believe people will still watch it 100 years from now.”
Quaid says Natasha Richardson’s accident devastated him and many others. He praises her happy marriage with Liam Neeson and her positive demeanor at work, which influenced everyone around her.
Reflecting on The Parent Trap, Quaid said it feels like it was just yesterday, even though the film recently celebrated its 20th anniversary. He recalls the original 1961 film and how the 1998 remake became a favorite among children, often used by parents as a babysitter. Quaid joked that he used to be a babysitter for many children when his parents were busy.
