The hashtag ‘Boycott Netflix’ has been trending on social media site Netflix for some time now. The reason is Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan’s debut film ‘Maharaj’. Starring Jaideep Ahlawat, this film is going to be released tomorrow i.e. on 14th June.

Many people tagged X and urged others to ‘boycott Netflix’ and ‘ban Maharaj’. They claim that Netflix is promoting ‘anti-Hindu’ content.

VHP leader Sadhvi Prachi was one of the many X users who demanded a ban on the film. Prachi wrote on X, “Insult to Sanatan Dharma will not be tolerated. Ban Maharaj’s film. #BoycottNetflix.”

It is difficult to control oneself after seeing this… It is difficult to control oneself after seeing this… It is difficult to control oneself after seeing this…

One person wrote, “Why was religion brought into a film on food a few months ago? And now insulting Hindu saints, how long will this continue?” The same message was shared by many others.

Why was religion included in a film about food made a few months ago?

Another wrote, “Maharaj’s poster shows a man with a tilak and a ponytail on one side, while on the other side a well-dressed young man (Aamir Khan’s son Junaid) is shown. As usual, anti-Hindu web-series and movies have been shown on Netflix before.”

Maharaj’s poster shows a man with a Tilak on his forehead and matted hair on one side, while on the other side a young man (Aamir Khan’s son Junaid) is shown in attractive attire.

The official note states that the film’s story takes place in pre-independence India and is based on the Maharaja Defamation Case of 1862, which was sparked by “allegations of misconduct by a prominent person”.

Junaid Khan will play journalist and social reformer Karsandas Mulji, a pioneering advocate for women’s rights and social reform. A student of Mumbai’s Elphinstone College and a disciple of scholar-leader Dadabhai Naoroji, Mulji wrote on widow remarriage, stood up for the oppressed and sowed seeds of reform in society.

There is no teaser or trailer released for the film, and it will stream directly on Netflix tomorrow. It is directed by Siddharth P Malhotra and produced by Aditya Chopra under YRF Entertainment.
