Bad Newz Review: Vicky Kaushal is the only good news here
Bad Newz Movie Review: This Vicky Kaushal film is like an Instagram filter that loses its shine after the first use. Its surface is shiny and glossy, but there is no material you can sink your teeth into.

The song topped the charts. We all made reels. Vicky Kaushal’s swag broke the internet with that hook step. Tripti Dimri, buoyed by the success of Animal, has been paired opposite not one, but two male leads. What more could a film need? Well, maybe a good scriptwriter and a visionary director? The trio of Vicky Kaushal, Amy Virk and Tripti Dimri are saddled with a shoddy screenplay, tediously long sitcom-style jokes and background music that deserves the mute button.
Bad Newz had the best pre-release promotion of any film. The music was heart-warming, and Vicky and Tripti’s amazing scenes gave us the ‘take me away from my mundane life’ feeling. Sadly, the film stayed too true to its title and delivered bad news!
Akhil Chaddha (Vicky Kaushal) is a typical Punjabi Shaved Who is set to work in a Dharma film. He attracts an aspiring chef named Saloni (Tripti Dimri) and they get married. (spoiler ALERT) But their values clash and they soon drift apart. Enter Gurbir (Ammy Virk), who offers Saloni more than just solace and soon things go from ‘just friends’ to ‘complicated’. Then comes a bizarre pregnancy track that leads to a climax that makes no sense.
Bad News is like an Instagram filter that loses its luster after the first use. The surface is shiny and glossy, but there’s no material you can sink your teeth into. The writing is shallow and flat. The punches never land. The film also tries satire and parody, but the jokes are so weak they lose air before they even get started. Some lines seem left over from prime-time TV Laughter Challenge auditions.
Vicky Kaushal has the best role in the film. You feel sorry for him as he says clichés with all his might and with 100 percent conviction. Not once does he step out of character or look defeated by poor dialogues and one-liners. He looks at his best and has that superstar glow to him, which we haven’t seen in a very long time.
Tripti needs to be seen again Her performance in ‘Bulbul’ Perhaps to correct course and figure out what path she wants to take from here on. Having potential can only come in handy if you strongly resist the shoddy material offered. Some scenes with Vicky and Amy stand out only because of their banter and chemistry.
To put it better – Tauba Tauba! There is no good news in this bad news.
