Avatar: Fire and Ash started its journey on a positive note at the box office. The film, directed by James Cameron, earned approximately US$345 million at the worldwide box office during its 5-day opening weekend. The sci-fi action adventure film collected US$257 million in international territories across over 53 markets, while the remaining US$89 million came from the US alone.
The third installment of the much-loved Avatar franchise saw a massive decline of 21 percent compared to the opening weekend of Avatar: The Way of Water, which had grossed USD 441.7 million in 2022. This is mainly because the second installment had more anticipation among the audience as it was coming after a decade. The short gap between the second and third parts could be one of the reasons why the latest film could not surpass the previous film.
Nevertheless, the film recorded the second-highest opening of 2025, behind Zootopia 2’s US$560.3 million weekend debut. It is also the 9th biggest opener for a Hollywood release in the post-pandemic era. The top spot still belongs to Spider-Man: No Way Home, which grossed US$600.5 million in its weekend. The previous installment of the Avatar franchise retained its 5th position in the top 10 list. Take a look at the complete list.
