Introduction
Asus Zenfone 12 Ultra is here and it is more or less a recurrence upgrade on last year’s model. Not much has changed, neither physically nor in the context of hardware. The phone retains the same overall design and ratio. It comes with a new set of colors and slightly rewritten camera island, but usually, it looks very familiar and feels.
The performance is absolutely unchanged. It is not that there was a dire need of upgrade to start it. As far as we can tell, the stereo speaker system is also the same. Nothing has been revised in the battery department. You still get a 5,500 mAh pack with 65W hypercharge support and QE 1.3 wireless charging.
The camera setup is largely unchanged. However, we note that Asus has swapped the main camera sensor, possibly as part of its gimbal stabilizer upgrade, which now provides better stabilization of up to 66%.

The largest hardware change introduced with Zenfone 12 Ultra is certainly chipset. The phone comes with Qualcomm’s latest and largest Snapdragon 8 elite chip. Asus is using the new chip, especially its powerful NPU. One of the major sales points for Zenfone 12 Ultra is its extended AI skill.
We are going into detail on new AI features in the software section, but it is enough to say, there are some new features and many of them locally run on-devices and do not require clouds.
Out of the box
The Zenfone 12 Ultra comes in a gray to-piece box that is clearly made of recycled material. In fact, it is FSC-attested and also uses Eco ink. There is no plastic in sight, which we appreciate.
Retail package is not particularly rich. Unfortunately, Zenfone 12 Ultra does not come with a charger. You get a simple type-C for Type-C cable that lacks e-marker chip. This means that by specification, it is limited to 3A power transfer or 20V up to 60W.
The Zenfone 12 Ultra is rated to charge up to 65W power. If you get an asus charger, they usually ship with a related cable to saturate the maximum rated power for the charger. The phone rarely hit your advertised maximum charging rate, however, even if you keep using a cable provided with a third-party charger, it should not be practically a problem.
You find a good plastic, rigid, transparent bumper case inside the box, so there is there.
Keeping in mind the tradition, Asus also has a deal with both Rhinoshield and Devilcase to launch compatible matters along the phone. There is also a magsafe magnetic accessory point on the back for wireless charging in the latter.
