Apple may not charge for Apple Intelligence features on iPhones for at least the next 3 years
Although Apple Intelligence is yet to come to iPhones, it may not be free for long. It is estimated that Apple will start charging for Apple Intelligence features in at least 3 years.
Listen to the story

Apple Intelligence is Apple’s in-house artificial intelligence that will be seen in the upcoming iPhone 16 series. Earlier, it was being speculated that the iPhone 16 would come with Apple Intelligence, but later we learned that the feature will arrive with the iOS 18.1 update in October. Moreover, a recent report also found that Apple Intelligence will not be free. Some advanced features will be behind a paywall, but not immediately. It will take at least 3 years for Apple Intelligence to go premium and subscription base. There are rumors that Apple may introduce paid Apple Intelligence features, which could potentially cost $20 per month, but it is unlikely that the company will start charging for these features anytime soon, with at least three years being the likely timeline before any paid service is implemented.
Boomberg’s Mark Gurman, commenting on recent rumors about paid Apple Intelligence features, has confirmed that while Apple does plan to introduce paid features in the future, the timeline is longer than many expect, and it’s not going to happen immediately.
Apple Intelligence
At WWDC 2024, Apple introduced its initial Apple Intelligence features, including a new Siri, ZenMoji, Image Playground, and a variety of improvements to its built-in apps that demonstrate the company’s advancements in artificial intelligence and machine learning. Although the new Apple Intelligence features are impressive, they primarily work on-device.
Apple Intelligence is a step towards getting ahead in the AI race. According to Gurman, Apple will likely build on existing Apple Intelligence features and introduce more sophisticated capabilities, which they can then charge for. However, he estimates that it will take the company at least three years to develop features worthy of a premium, and even that timeframe may be overly optimistic.
As of now, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models can support the beta stage of iOS 18.1 which provides a handful of Apple Intelligence features. But recently, it has been speculated that with the arrival of the iPhone 16 series, Apple will design the next iPhone SE to support these features. Although there is no official information, the next iPhone SE is expected to arrive worldwide in early 2025.
In short, the iPhone SE 4 could be getting a new look that will make it look more like its stellar iPhone 16 sibling rather than the outdated iPhone 14. This move could be a big deal for budget-conscious Apple fans who want a new look without the hefty price tag. Keep your eyes open, because this spring, Apple could surprise us all!
