Now, jurors have been selected for Baldwin’s trial on July 9, 2024. According to the Associated Press, the jury consisted of 16 out of 80 people (11 women and 5 men). 12 jurors will decide the trial, 4 members will be alternates.
According to the People article, during the process, Judge Mary Marlow asked potential jurors about their knowledge of the case. Two potential jurors raised their hands.
After declaring they could not be fair and impartial, they were excused. One person shared, “I have read about the case and am very biased against Mr. Baldwin.”
According to the publication, Baldwin was seen observing the prosecution and defense and taking notes on a yellow legal pad during the roughly 50-minute questioning session.
Alex Baldwin’s lawyer asks questions about gun safety
Alex Spiro, representing the accused actor, asked potential members about gun safety and if they would rather rely on experts than themselves to ensure safety.
The lawyer asked, “Suppose you took your car to a mechanic. And you don’t know anything about cars. And the mechanic told you it was safe. You would believe him, right?”
A potential juror responded that everyone knows one should check whether a gun is real or a toy before shooting it. The actor was present during a pretrial hearing at the First Judicial District Court in Santa Fe, New Mexico on July 8.
According to the outlet, opening statements and testimony will begin at 8:30 a.m. MDT on July 10.
