Ahead of the upcoming OnePlus 13 launch in January, OnePlus is addressing a major concern that all phone companies face – the dreaded green-line issues with displays. The company, which has seen its phones affected by green-lines appearing on the display, has said that it is moving to try and mitigate the problem through some technology and durability solutions. And to ensure that users have peace of mind about OnePlus phones, it is also offering free lifetime warranty on the displays of its phones, including the OnePlus 13.
The company calls its solution the “OnePlus Green Line Worry-Free Solution” and it includes not only technology solutions but also some after-sales commitments for people who buy OnePlus phones.
“OnePlus was the first brand across the industry to respond rapidly with technical solutions to mitigate display risks in the Indian market,” said Robin Liu, CEO of OnePlus India. “Not only are we accelerating technology upgrades in AMOLED displays, but we are also the first brand to offer a lifetime warranty for Indian users, which demonstrates our confidence in our technology and our user-first approach.”
At a briefing in Shenzhen, China, OnePlus detailed to tech media and tech influencers all the measures it has taken to mitigate the green-line issue. Measures include changing the way displays are attached to future OnePlus phones like the OnePlus 13, as well as more robust durability testing. These also include a free lifetime warranty in case of any problem with the phone’s display.
OnePlus says that the green-line issues that phones across all brands in India are facing are likely not due to any one factor but a combination of them. Mainly, the aging of OLED is to blame. “In India, hot and humid conditions may cause some older AMOLED displays to degrade faster than others,” says Ramgopal Reddy, vice president, OnePlus India. “Aging is one of the reasons why this problem was only fully recognized by the industry last year. But I’m proud to say that OnePlus is leading the industry in addressing these types of issues.” Is responding from.”
New display layer in OnePlus 13
A major step taken by OnePlus to slow down the aging of its OLED displays due to moisture and oxygen leakage into the display layers is the introduction of a new protective layer. “The standout advancement is the integration of the Enhanced Edge Bonding Layer, which utilizes the superior PVX edge-sealing material in all OnePlus AMOLED displays,” a company spokesperson said. “The PVX layer acts as a barrier, significantly slowing the penetration of moisture and oxygen over time, thereby increasing the lifespan of the display.”
“We understand the unique climate challenges posed by prolonged high temperatures and humidity that Indian users face, and we have worked diligently to ensure that OnePlus devices can meet those demands,” Reddy said. Former Director of the company’s Hyderabad R&D Centre.
To make sure its solution works, the company has also doubled down on the rigorous Double 85 test. Part of industry tests, it involves placing the phone in a chamber with 85 percent humidity and 85 degrees Celsius temperature. Phones are typically kept for 21 days, but OnePlus says it has extended the testing period several times to artificially age the display in the OnePlus 13 and check how high temperatures and humidity affect the phone. What kind of pressure does it exert?
The company says that while its technology and sustainability solutions will ensure that its phones have the least amount of green-line issues compared to the rest of the industry, it understands that consumers demand assurance. And OnePlus is hoping to provide this assurance through its free lifetime warranty.
The company says that whether users have an older model or are considering the latest OnePlus 13, they can rest assured that their investment is safe from display issues. It says this is a commitment to users that its competitors cannot match.
“Last year, we took a bold step by becoming the first smartphone brand to offer a lifetime warranty for our older models to support affected users,” said Robin Liu, CEO, OnePlus India. “Based on this, we are excited to extend this warranty on every OnePlus phone, strengthening our confidence in the quality and reliability of our products. More importantly, as a community-driven brand, we Hopefully these measures will provide users with a worry-free experience throughout the lifetime of their OnePlus devices.”
