One of the major public health concerns in India is a non-contact fatty liver disease, which is a major metabolic disorder affecting millions of people in India with obesity, diabetes and heart diseases.
Being a lifestyle related disease, non-alcohol fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a silent epidemic in India, according to government data, about 1 to 3 out of 10 persons, about 1 to 3 persons, and affects about 25 to 30% of the world’s population.
What is Nafld?
Non-alcohol fatty liver disease, now known as a stevic liver disease (MASLD) associated with metabolic dysfunction, occurs when fat occurs around the liver. It cannot show obvious symptoms at first but increases the risk of diabetes and obesity.
Physical activity helps in reversing the damage caused by the disease.

When the fat surrounds the liver, after some time it causes inflammation, known as hepatitis. Masld is one of the most common liver diseases in the world. Since the rate of obesity and type 2 diabetes is increasing, MASLD incident is also increasing.
It is important to diagnose early masal as it may end in liver damage or liver cirrhosis (skard liver and permanently damaged).
how does this work?
Masld develops over years. Some of the most common causes of liver disease include smoking, ultra-produced food and inactivity.
A study presented in Endo 2023, the annual meeting of the Endocrine Society in Chicago, in III, revealed that the major trigger for fatty liver is additional food.
When the liver is not able to break fat in a normal way, it stores them within it and the rise of fat unwell. Obesity, diabetes and high amounts of triglycerides also trigger fatty liver disease.
What are the signs and symptoms?
Symptoms of liver damage are jaundice (a yellow disintegration of the eyes and skin), itchy skin, fluid -like abdominal inflammation, swelling of the legs, inflammation and anorexia, which are the results of a fatty liver.
Other signs include extreme fatigue, unexpected weight loss and loss of appetite.
How to reverse fatty liver?
Fatty liver disease can be reversed through diet and exercise.
“Dietary measures include avoiding sugars or sophisticated carbs. When liver functions are deranged, patients are managed with drugs such as vitamin E, suroglitazar, semaglutide, obeticolic acid etc..

A study published in cell metabolism found that high diet in resistant starch being high helped reduce the accumulation of fat in the liver. Some food sources of resistant starch are brown rice, beans, whole grain bread or pasta, quinoa, cashew, lentils, plants, oats and potatoes.
“We came to know that the participants in the study benefited from a resistant starch diet, as the accumulation of fat in the diseased liver decreased. In addition, we saw an increase in some types of bacteria in the intestines of the participants. These bacteria positively affected liver fat and transport.
Resistant starch contains irreversible fibers, and thus, the intestine has a prebiotic effect. This means that it increases good bacteria in the intestine.
Non-alcohol is another solution exercise for fatty liver disease. Motivating aerobic practice and strength training for 150 minutes every week can help in reverse the damage caused by MASLD.
