In short

  • Vishnu Manchu told the story in all Indian film industries
  • He cites Hindi hits like ‘Stri 2’ and ‘Dangal’ as an example of rooted cinema.
  • Manchu warned against watching the successes of Hindi cinema in media coverage

Amid the ongoing debate about the story contained in Indian cinema, actor-producer Vishnu Manchu has offered a balanced tech, arguing that the South Indian industry deserves praise, the contribution of Hindi cinema should not be ignored.

In a special conversation with India today, ‘Kannappa’ star said, “You know, it’s very fun when people talk about only four South Industries being inherent. Malayalam has always been vested – they have been far ahead in telling the story. Tamil cinema is also very native, root subjects. Telugu and Kannada industries are also more than Telugu and Kannada industries.

He accepted the recent discussion around South Indian films, especially in the context of the authenticity of storytelling, but warned against reducing the impact of Hindi films, which have done well in that place.

Manchu said, “People forget that Hindi cinema has also given some deep roots that have worked unprecedentedly well. One of the films is ‘Stri 2’, And then ‘Chhawa’, which has done unprecedented well. And if you look back, ‘PK’, ‘Dangal’, ‘Munnabhai MBBS’ – they are incredible films, and they are as much as they come, “he said.

Manchu, ignoring his success stories, also criticized the tendency to repeatedly highlight Bollywood failures. He said, “I think the Hindi media has been a bit harsh at its own industry. It is not performing as badly as people claim. Yes, we are going through a dull period, but we should celebrate successes and great films that we did not work continuously, instead of constantly harming it, instead of doing harm on it,” he said.

In addition, Manchu said that no film industry is immune for failure. “The ratio of success in entertainment, worldwide, is 15-20%. Telugu is no different, Tamil is no different, and Hindi is no different. Just because 20% Telugu movies are working, and you are also looking at the top 20% Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada – together – together, but if you look at each industry, we are facing everyone, we are facing all.”

Vishnu Manchu is currently busy promoting his upcoming ‘Kannappa’, who will hit theaters on June 27.
