What to do if your luggage is lost?
If your luggage gets lost at the airport, the first thing you need to do is submit a Passenger Irregularity Report (PIR) to the airline desk. Apart from giving a detailed description of the luggage, you also need to add a local address and contact details. Don’t forget to get a copy of the lost luggage report and your claim number. Using the claim number, the passenger can check the status of his lost luggage on the airline’s website.
The airline will track your luggage and send it to the address you provide once the report is filed. If your luggage is not found within 21 days, your luggage is considered lost by the airline. In such situations, the passenger should file a new claim with the airline, listing all lost items, prices, and purchase dates.
If you receive your goods in damaged condition, you will have to submit another form for repair. Remember, this work has to be done within 24 hours of receiving the goods.
Depending on the airline, you may get anywhere from Rs 10,000 to Rs 70,000 as reimbursement charges from the responsible airline. So it is always advisable to apply for travel insurance for domestic and international travel.
Of course, social media is one of the greatest boons to society and like Aditi Rao Hydari, you can take to the airline accounts to get quick feedback and further direction.

2. Make sure to remove old barcode stickers from your luggage as this will help airline staff understand which sticker is from the latest journey.
3. Buy a Bluetooth luggage tag that allows you to track the location of your luggage through a simple app installed on your smart device, even if it gets lost.
4. When there are fewer connections and layovers, there is less chance of mistakes and improper baggage handling between flights. It is therefore advisable to book non-stop flights whenever possible.
5. Arriving early for your trip can reduce the risk of lost luggage as airline staff get enough time to properly tag your bags and load them onto the right flight
7. Make your items unique from others by adding anything of your choice such as ribbon, sticker, unique tag or any personal pattern or design etc.
