A few months after Ayan Mukherjee’s father, Deb Mukherjee’s death, his uncle, Rono Mukherjee, also died in Mumbai. He breathed his last on today, Wednesday, May 28, 2025. The cause of his death is still unknown, but the tragic incident has sent waves of shock through the entire Mukherjee family. Shortly thereafter, members of the Mukherjee family, including the director of War 2, Ashutosh Gowarikar, and much more arrived to pay their final honors.
Who was Rono Mukherjee?
Rono Mukherjee was the father of actress Sharbani Mukherjee, who is known for her appearance in films like Mohandas, Border, and God Only Noz! He was also an experienced filmmaker who directed two films in his career, Tu Hi Meri Zindagi and Havan, which was released in 1965 and 1977 respectively.

Rono Mukherjee’s family members arrived for their funeral
Despite the incessant rains in Mumbai, soon after Rono Mukherjee’s death, Ayan Mukherjee and Tanisha Mukherjee arrived with her cousin and actress, Sharabani Mukherjee.
In a video shared by The Paps, the director of War 2 came out of his car and grabbed his umbrella. After that Tanisha took place, which was also captured, while she made her way inside the crematorium. Both were seen in white outfits, while Ayan had opted for a white kurta pajama, and Tanisha was seen in a traditional suit.

In particular, Kajol, which is to share a close bond with Sharabani Mukherjee, was not seen anywhere. It seems that the actress was unable to attend the funeral due to pre -commitments. However, his bond on the annual Durga Puja always attracted everyone’s attention.
Apart from this, director Ashutosh Gowariker, along with his wife Sunita Gowariker, also arrived to pay his final honor to Rono Mukherjee. If you did not know, Sunita Gowariker is the sister of director Ayan Mukherjee.

It is worth noting that the death of Rono Mukherjee comes as the second shocking news for the Mukherjee family, which is after Ayan Mukherjee’s father, Deb Mukherjee’s passage. It was only earlier this year on March 14, 2025, that he left for his heavenly residence at the age of 83 after struggling with age -related issues.
He was last seen in Kamini, led by Shahid Kapoor, released in 2009, directed by Vishal Bhardwaj.
