Sajid Khan recently shared his opinion on the fading concept of “hero” in Bollywood, stating that the industry is today full of prominent actors rather than true heroes. Speaking on Bharti Singh and Harsh Limbachia’s YouTube channel, Bharti TV, Sajid offered a hero how the definition of a hero has been transferred for decades.
According to Sajid, the idea of the Bollywood hero embodied by stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Vinod Khanna, and Mithun Chakraborty has reduced considerably. He said, “Hero is a lot of work left.” Those who used to be a hero are now only lead. Nowadays, anyone can do a film because the value of a hero has come down. “
Khan insisted that the real essence of a hero is now mainly present in South Indian cinema. He said that the importance of a hero has ended in the south, which is clear in the grand entry scenes and there are big depictions seen in his films. According to him, in South Indian films heroes are conducted for a moral standard – they cannot take action on the screen that would be considered wrong for the society. He reported that when the word “super-red” does not exist, the word “superhero”, once exposes the heroes of that kind of height in cinema.
While reflecting the changing dynamics of the film industry, Sajid noticed that the actors of the earlier generations did not rely on the well -fabricated body to create an impact. He mentioned that stars like Vinod Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan did not have a particular muscle bodies, yet managed to express intensity through their expressions. He credited Salman Khan for popularizing the gym-tond look in Bollywood, especially after the release of Main Piar, which marked the onset of the six-pack trend. However, she was in a hurry to clarify that physical fitness alone does not make anyone a hero, saying that real intensity should be reflected in an actor’s eyes.
To support his views, Sajid referred to the physical change of Ranbir Kapoor for the film animal, saying that Kapoor’s performance would be equally powerful without muscle benefits, due to emotional depth in his eyes. He also cited the role of Sunny Deol in Gadar 2, given that despite not having a gym-tond body, Deol’s naturally strong appearance seemed confident and impressive, described as a “desi body” that is still distributed in action scenes.
Sajid Khan is known for directing films like Hey Baby, Housefull and Housefull 2.
