Indian stars, including Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Kiara Advani and Diljit Dosanjh, felt their presence in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York in Met Gala 2025 on 5 May. While some fashion critics praised him on black dandyism, others expressed disappointment on social media. Some also referred to the phenomenon as the Chandivipation of Mate, criticizing both Indian designers and their celebrity ambassadors. In response to backlash, Janhvi Kapoor came forward to defend the representation of Indian designers.
Janhvi Kapoor, in her comment on Diet Sabya’s post, emphasized that it was a long time for Indian artisans and designers to achieve global recognition. He said that Indian designers are worthy of a place on the stage of the world along with the icon of the country, saying that instead of getting upset by seeing Indian talent in Mate, people should celebrate it.

The supreme beautifying actress expressed pride among the most surprising in clothes, stating that Indian craftsmanship has long been used globally without appropriate credit.
Janhvi commented that the ongoing classist approach was reminiscent of colonial trauma, such as for years, the world borrowed India’s clothes, embroidery and jewelry without accepting their origin.
Kapoor said that finally representing Indian artisans and their legacy in such a reputable event, to see that she calls the experience even more magical due to that pride.
At the event, Shah Rukh Khan made his debut with Kiara Advani and Diljit Dosanjh, while Priyanka Chopra returned to her fifth appearance. Shahrukh donated a black dress designed by Sabyasachi Mukherjee.
Keeping their pregnancy in mind, a contingent of Kiara artists depicted a metal heart and umbilical cord, while Diljit’s organization celebrated its Punjabi roots with a map of Punjab and Gurmukhi embroidery.
The iconic incident was co-headed by prominent figures such as singer Paarel Williams, actor Coleman Domingo, F1 Champion Louis Hamilton, Rapper A $ AP Rocky, and Vogue Editor Ana Wintor, with a honorary co-chairman with a basketball icon Lebron James.
