Earthquake-hit Bangkok rescue operations are taking place in full swing, where a 33-storey skyscraper turned into debris within seconds, killing at least 13 people while over 70 buried. However, sources told NDTV that the number of people buried could range from 300 to 400. The K9 USAR of Thailand’s rescue dog association has stepped as a ray of hope. Cute friends are on rescue duty, help people find out – dead and alive.
In the video and pictures shared on the Facebook page of K9 Usar Thailand, dogs can be seen carefully and smelling through the debris pile.
The dog’s handlers carefully assess the area, including the debris, including unstable construction materials, sharp objects, surface temperature and grip, whether the dogs should be worn in shoes before deciding or should be barefoot for any task. This is to provide dogs with stability and comfort while they work to save life.
On Saturday, one of the dogs, K9 Sahara was given shoes on the front legs because the area was “quite loose and uncertain”.
“The handler chose his front leg only to wear the back leg, if necessary to maintain force from the back leg. Within a short period of time, the behavior was closely looking at the behavior that the shoes were motivated to lose stability due to loose surfaces and no sharp points were found in the area. Therefore, he decided to remove all his shoes, so he can continue to work with support,” a Facebook post.
On Saturday, there were glass and wires in search of Sahara for the survivors, so safety shoes were worn.
While visiting the camp, where the dogs are stationed, a member of the K9 USAR Thailand team said that there are cooling systems for every dog’s crates.
He said, “Dogs are closed from the world. They have time to rest and get ready for work when we are asked to go to the site. Dogs understand that it is their quiet time, and they make them cold and relax until they need to go to work,” she said.
There is also a cool-down station for dogs if they begin to heat up. “Somebody donated some cool-down buckets for dogs and cooling mats.”
Dog Handler said that there are also portable air conditioners, who have made a lot of difference between the comfort and good of the dogs.
Swayamsevak Weets, who have offered the team to take care of the dogs, are on standby all the time.
Dog Handler said, “We all have got canine first aid qualification, but in case of something beyond our ability, we have our vet team on standby, which is more important than what we can behave.”
The woman of the K9-Search team expressed that when they are “bit tired”, the team hope that their dogs may help find missing.
“A meditation is just to help the missing people find,” he said.
On Monday, all nine rescue dogs did a complete checkup by a volunteer veterinary team. Assessment suggests that all dogs are in the right health and can continue with their general discovery and rescue duties.
