An armed resistance movement against Myanmar’s military -operated government on Sunday criticized Junta for carrying out airstrikes on villages, even with an earthquake reels in the country, killing around 1,700 people.
One of the oldest ethnic forces in Myanmar, Karen National Union said in a statement that Junta “continues aerial attacks targeting civilian areas, even the population suffers from earthquakes”.
The group said that under normal circumstances, the army would be giving priority to relief efforts, but instead focuses on “deploying forces to attack its people”.
A spokesperson of Juverna did not answer the questions of Reuters about criticisms.
Myanmar has been closed in the civil war with several armed opposition groups since the 2021 coup, when the military seized power from the Nobel Peace Prize Award winner Aung San Suu Ki elected government.
Shortly after Friday’s disastrous earthquake, military jets started air strikes and drone attacks near NU headquarters in Karen State, according to a relief organization Free Burma Rangers.
7.7-The renovation of the earthquake was in a region organized by the Juverle forces, but the devastation is widespread and has also affected some areas organized by armed resistance movements.
On Sunday, the Opposition National Integration Government, which includes government’s remains in 2021, stated that Janta Anti-Janta militia stopped all aggressive military action for two weeks under its command.
Crisis Group Senior Myanmar Advisor Richard Horsey said that some opposing forces have stopped their crimes but the fight continues elsewhere.
He said, “The government also continues to launch an airstrikes including the affected areas. It needs to be stopped,” he said.
He said that the governance was not providing much visual assistance in earthquake-hit areas.
“Local fire brigade, ambulance crew, and community organizations have been gathered, but the army – which will normally be gathered to support such crisis – can’t be seen anywhere,” Horsie said.
