Vande Bharat has once again caught the attention of the internet over the quality of food being served to its passengers. An X user, whose relatives were travelling from Bhopal to Agra, shared a picture of the food served on the express train. It showed a dead cockroach in the dal. Sharing the post, Vidit Varshney also tagged Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Railway Ministry and IRCTC’s official X (formerly Twitter) pages, urging them to “take strict action”. The note attached to the picture read, “Today on 18-06-24 my uncle and aunt were travelling from Bhopal to Agra in Vande Bharat. They found a ‘cockroach’ in their food from @IRCTCofficial. Please take strict action against the vendor and ensure this doesn’t happen again.”

Take a look at the post here:

IRCTC’s official page promptly acknowledged the post in the comments section. IRCTC claimed that the vendor responsible has been penalised with severe penalties. It said, “Sir, we apologise for your travel experience. The matter has been looked into seriously and appropriate penalty has been imposed on the concerned service provider. We have also intensified production and logistics monitoring.”

This is not the first time such an incident has happened. Earlier, a passenger travelling on Vande Bharat from Dehradun to Agra was served curd containing “fungus” along with his meal. Passenger Harshad Topkar shared three pictures of his meal on X (formerly known as Twitter). The pictures show a packed juice box placed next to a half-eaten puri, ketchup sachets and some packed dishes. In the picture, we can also see a tub of mango flavoured curd with a greenish-white lump placed on top of it. Sharing the pictures, Harshad wrote, “Was travelling on Vande Bharat in Executive Class from Dehradun to Anand Vihar today. Found a green layer in the Amul curd served which was probably fungus. Did not expect this from Vande Bharat service.”

Once again, IRCTC apologised for the incident in the comments section. They wrote, “Sir, we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused. The matter was noticed by the onboard supervisor and the curd was replaced immediately. Moreover, the curd pack was within the expiry date. The issue is being taken up with the manufacturer.”
