A silent health crisis is coming out in India, a recent study done by at least one digital healthcare platform Medibudi. The survey found that more than 57% of corporate men suffer from vitamin B12 deficiency, an important nutrient for energy and brain function.

The study analyzed data from around 4,400 individuals (3,338 men and 1,059 women), all urban corporate staff. Even among women, displays a level of reduction of about 50%. But

Why is the deficiency of vitamin B12 so common among corporate professionals?

It would not be an exaggeration to say that for most of us, our work has gained prevalence on everything else. With the demand for schedule, irregular eating habits and high stress levels, corporate professionals often ignore the necessary nutrition – until the symptoms begin. Inadequate diet intake is one of the main reasons behind the deficiency of vitamin B12 between men and women.

In addition, Vidhi Chawla, founder of Ficico diet and aesthetic clinic, says Vitamin B12 is found mainly in animal products, which makes vegetarians particularly weak.

Additionally, Dr. Archana Batra, a dietitian and certified diabetes teacher, highlights that lifestyle changes, including frequent consumption of over-informed foods, alcohol and additional caffeine, significantly reduces B12 absorption. In addition, the level of stress between corporate staff increases increased cortisol production, which reduces B12 reserves in the body.

Initial signs of vitamin B12 deficiency

If you did not know that vitamin B12 is important for neurological function and energy metabolism, then its deficiency often does not pay attention until serious symptoms arise. Some initial warnings include:

  • Old fatigue and muscle weakness
  • Tingling sensations in hands and feet
  • Smriti problems and difficulty focusing
  • Mood, irritability and depression
  • Dizziness and shortness of breath

We often dismiss these symptoms as work related fatigue, but it is best to note whether fatigue or any of these symptoms remains recurring.

What is the role of stress of sedentary lifestyle and work?

A desk-bound lifestyle in association with high task stress plays an important role in deteriorating the deficiency of B12. With low physical activity, our metabolism slows down and it hinders the absorption of nutrients. Additionally, chronic stress weakens the health of the intestine, making it difficult to absorb the necessary vitamins to the body.

Dr. Batra reiterated that frequent consumption of alcohol and excessive caffeine intake further enhances the issue. “These habits deteriorate digestion and reduce the body’s ability to absorb B12 from food sources,” she warns.

Can you reversed B12 deficiency?

While people are more likely to decrease in vitamin B12, it is also possible to reverse it (and supplements are not just solutions). Changes in small diet and lifestyle set a long way. Dr. Batra suggests:

  • Include b12 -rich foods in daily diet – chicken, eggs, milk, fish, yogurt, fermented foods
  • Consider only supplementary diet when dietary intake is insufficient
  • Reduce caffeine and alcohol consumption
  • Take small brakes at work and attach to mild physical activity
  • Manage stress through meditation or relaxation techniques
  • Stay hydrated and ensure proper intestinal health

Check yourself

Experts recommend an annual vitamin B12 test, especially for vegetarians, individuals experienceing chronic fatigue, or digestive issues. Regular monitoring will ensure initial detection and timely intervention before showing symptoms.
