Titanium frame digging
During the 2023 iPhone launch, Apple introduced the first Titanium-Body iPhone with the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max models. The new content was postponed to provide more durability and a mild look factor to users. However, Apple is now allegedly planning to return to the aluminum frame.
Several reports from industry analysts such as Jeff Pu and Ming-Chi Kuo suggest that Apple is planning to create a part-aluminum, part-glass design to change the all-glass back seen in current models. The switch on an aluminum frame is said to align with 2030 carbon neutrality goals of Apple, as aluminum has a lower carbon footprint than that of titanium.
Additionally, the iPhone 17 Pro is rumored to sport a dual tone finish, with a deep camera island opposite the rest of the body. The camera island is also called greater than its predecessor.
Thick body for a large battery
Another great hope for the iPhone 17 Pro is a slight increase in the thickness of the iPhone 17 Pro Max. According to a report by Lekik Ice Universe, the iPhone 17 Pro Max can measure 8.725 mm, while the iPhone 16 Pro compared to Max’s 8.25 mm thickness. Although this difference may seem negligible, it may allow Apple to include a large battery in the device.
Big camera island
The iPhone 17 Pro is also expected to facilitate an important redesign of its camera system. According to Apple Tipster John Prosece, the device can sport a large camera island spread over the width of the phone. The island will place three cameras on the left with an LED flash, lidar scanner, and microphone on the right.
Additionally, according to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, Apple is planning to upgrade the lens to allow the iPhone 17 Pro to capture professional-level photos and videos. Gurman reports that Apple aims to enable the iPhone 17 Pro so capable in video recording that it may be able to switch to videographers and creators to switch to the iPhone 17 Pro from professional cameras for high quality videos without relying on large camera setup.
Reports suggest that the pro model may have a 48-megapixel telephoto shooter, which is an important upgrade from the current 12-megapixel sensor. Additionally, all four iPhone 17 models can come up with a new 24-megapixel selfie camera for Sharper and more detailed selfie.
A19 Pro Chip and 12GB RAM power
Under the hood, the iPhone 17 Pro expects Apple’s latest and most powerful chipset for smartphones. The device will be powered by the A19 Pro Chip of the next generation of Apple built on the TSMC’s advanced 3Nm process. This chipset is expected to provide powerful performance and better power efficiency, which ensures smooth multitasking, faster app launch and better gaming performance.
Another major upgradation is an inclusion of anticipated 12GB RAM, a significant leap from the 8GB found in the current Pro model. This increase in memory will allow the iPhone 17 Pro allow to handle more demand applications and workflows easily.
Connectivity: Apple ate with Qualcomm?
Apple is working on reducing its dependence on Qualcomm by developing its in-house cellular modem. The latest iPhone 16e Apple’s ownership came with the characteristic of C1 modem. However, this modem currently lacks mmwave support, which limits its 5G connectivity to the sub -6GHz band.
According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is already working on an advanced version of the C1 modem, which can support MMWave and offer better power efficiency and transmission speed. However, this upgraded modem may not be ready on time for the iPhone 17 Pro series. Therefore, Apple may continue using the Qualcomm Modem for its 2025 flagship to ensure reliable 5G connectivity.
