The United States is making a plan to potentially relieve Russia’s restrictions as President Donald wants to restore relations with Donald Trump Moscow and to prevent war in Ukraine, an American officer and another person told a person familiar with the case.
Sources said that the White House has asked the state and treasury departments to draft a list of restrictions that could be relaxed for US officials to discuss with Russian representatives in the coming days.
According to sources, the restriction office is now preparing a proposal to lift sanctions including some Russian elite classes on select institutions and individuals.
The so -called option letters are often drafted by officers working on restrictions, but in recent times the specific request of the White House underlined Trump and his advisors’ desire to reduce Russian restrictions as part of the possible deal with moscow.
It was not immediately clear what Washington could want especially in exchange for any restriction relief.
The White House, the State Department, the Treasury Department and the Russian Embassy in Washington did not immediately respond to the request of the comment.
The Kremlin had described the relationship as “below zero” under the administration of Biden last year, a democrats that supported Ukraine with support and weapons and imposed a hard restriction on Russia to punish it in 2022 for their invasion.
