Famous UK food vlogger makes Daal Bhaat and Aloo Bhujia; Internet calls him ‘the one’ "Certified Indian"

If you are from the Indian subcontinent, the traditional dal-bhaat (lentils and rice) combo is probably your staple lunch on a summer afternoon. Adding crispy aloo bhujia (potato fries) to it makes this meal a delectable one. Surprisingly, the iconic dal-bhaat and aloo bhujia dish is not just popular in Indian households but also among foreigners. UK-based chef and food blogger Jake Dryden has featured this popular combo in his “Regional Cooking of India Series” on Instagram, giving a tantalising glimpse of its delicious preparation. Jake Drian began his cooking journey by cutting potatoes into long pieces and heating mustard oil in a pan. Mustard and fenugreek seeds were added next, frying the potato pieces till they turned golden brown. He then added green chillies, turmeric and salt. Moving on, the food vlogger turned his focus to making plain yellow dal, a typical dish from Bihar. He added cumin seeds, asafoetida along with garlic, ginger and dried chillies to enhance the spicy flavour. The final touch included chilli powder and grated onions. Drian described his experience as “literally in heaven” as he enjoyed dal-bhaat and aloo bhujia, calling it “classic South Asian comfort food”. Take a look:
