Channel 4 has started a woman’s remake, which is the most watched drama. The announcement is close to the heels of the recent demise of Barbara Taylor Bradford, the author of the original work.
The remake of a woman of substance is written by Catherine Jacques and Rone Bardsley, who is the author of Boukaaners. It follows Emma Hart, a poor maid in Yorkshire, and her journey to become one of the richest women on earth. Forge and executive producer Beth Willis, former drama head of Channel 4, are behind the remake.
The official description of the original series reads: “Emma Hurt, a bright and ambitious servant girl, ends her poor start in her search to become a retail magnet and become one of the world’s richest women.”
40 years ago, a woman of a substance starring by Jenny Cigroves broke the TV rating with over 14 million audiences. The remake is one of the new drama titles of Channel 4, being commissioned by Oli Maden, committed to bringing many new drama series to life.
