Director Gautham Menon reveals about Surya’s rejection of Dhruva Natchathiram.

Director Gautham Menon recently opened up about actor Suriya’s decision not to take up Dhruva Nachtiram. The director expressed that given their history of successful collaborations such as Khaaka Khaaka and Vaaranam Aayiram, the rejection was especially painful.

Dhruva Natchathiram has faced many delays and obstacles since its inception. Reflecting on Suriya’s rejection, Gautham said, “I understand why he can’t easily say yes to films, but I don’t want to understand that either. He heard the story and the script, and we had a lot of discussions. But for some reason, he didn’t choose it. I thought he would trust the director who had made Khaaka Khaaka and Vaaranam Aayiram with him, if someone else had said no, it would have been fine, but Suriya saying no was my thing. troublesome for Was.

Gautham Menon reflected on the bond and trust they built, saying, “I didn’t ask for it as a favor. We built trust by doing two films together. How wrong could it be? I asked him this. Well, I asked him, ‘Okay, you didn’t like it, but what if you don’t get the next film? That’s my problem, please.’ But he didn’t choose it.”

Recalling their previous collaboration, Vaaranam Aayirum, Gautham said, “I approached both Nana Patekar and Mohanlal for the father’s role. Nana Patekar sir said, ‘My strength is my voice, and with dubbing, the essence. Will be lost. Why do you want me to do this in the film?’ He was right, Surya said, ‘I will do it.’ He had the courage to play an old man in the film and knew that he was also playing a young character.”

Despite the setbacks, Menon was optimistic about Dhruva Nachtiram, saying, “The film will definitely release and do well. The reason I’m holding on to Dhruva Natchathiram is that it still looks like it was shot just yesterday. Now that Madagajaraja has done the work, I am even happier.”

Meanwhile, Gautham Menon collaborated with Mammootty for his upcoming film, Dominic and The Lady’s Purse. The film is backed by Mammootty’s Mammootty Company and will release on January 23, 2025.
