Apple is expected to introduce its next-generation iPhone 17 series later this year, possibly in September. Although there has been no official statement yet, rumors and leaks have painted a pretty good picture of the upcoming iPhone 17 phones. Based on rumors, Apple is focusing on redesigning the series compared to its predecessor. This includes introducing a new entry – the iPhone 17 Air. A recent leak has now added another bullet point to the list of what’s new in the rumored iPhone 17 series. This leak indicates that the upcoming series may feature a vapor cooling chamber and eliminate the heat sink.

Apple has been using heat sinks for a long time, while Android phones were the OGs using vapor cooling champers. Now, iPhones will also soon be part of the gang, as reported by GSMArena. Earlier, it was rumored that only iPhone 17 Pro Max will get VC cooling system. However, the latest leak claims that all models in the iPhone 17 series are set to make this change. That being said, it will be interesting to see how the iPhone 17 Air will fit into a VC system at just 6mm thickness.

For reference, vapor chambers are enclosed metal components that contain a small amount of liquid, usually de-ionized water. When the chipset generates heat, the liquid evaporates, turning into vapor that spreads over the surface of the chamber. This process helps distribute heat efficiently by effectively cooling the device.

The VC cooling system isn’t the only upgrade coming to all models. The non-Pro iPhone 17 variants are also rumored to eventually get high-refresh-rate screens. It remains to be seen whether those panels will be 90Hz or 120Hz.

iPhone 17 series: what to expect?

The latest rumors suggest that the iPhone 17 series will bring a significant redesign to the entire lineup. While the iPhone 16 attempted a similar update for the base and Plus models, the iPhone 17 series is expected to have a camera bump reminiscent of Google Pixel devices. Overall, it looks like Apple is trying to break the narrative of bringing the same designs and patterns every year.

Additionally, the lineup is rumored to feature a new anti-reflective display, which is said to be more scratch-resistant than the existing ceramic shield. Apple is reportedly working on a “super-hard anti-reflective layer” to increase durability and better withstand daily wear and tear.

The higher-end iPhone 17 models are expected to be equipped with 12GB of RAM, while the standard model may feature 8GB. Additionally, all iPhone 17 variants are rumored to include an upgraded 24-megapixel front-facing camera with a six-element lens, which is a notable improvement over the existing 12-megapixel selfie camera.
