Jose Andres, head of the World Central Kitchen organization, continues to work to support victims of the Los Angeles wildfires and frontline workers. Jennifer Garner volunteers her time to the organization to provide food to affected families and workers.
On January 10, the actress joined Andres’ team to help bring in food from restaurant and food truck partners and distribute it. While hosting an event during the Cayman Cookout at The Ritz Carlton, Grand Cayman, Andress told People magazine that working with Garner was like collaborating with an old friend, even though they had never met before.
He said, “It’s like she was my friend since childhood.” He said, “I didn’t have to tell her what to do because she always found something for herself to do.” The restaurant owner revealed that the Electra actress hugged people while distributing food.
He explained that people may ignore this gesture, but it has a “profound” impact on a person, especially on the mind of a disaster victim. He added, “I think it’s almost like a psychological concern that no one realizes, but it’s very deep and important.”
He further expressed his gratitude to anyone who came to help him even for an hour and described them as wonderful people. The WCK founder emphasized that the fact that these people, especially celebrities, came forward to help in places where there were no cameras is what makes it special.
The statement may refer to the criticism that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle received after photos of them helping LA wildfire survivors went viral online. At the same programme, Andres praised the Duke and Duchess’s efforts, and stressed that they did not do it for the cameras.
In an interview with NBC News, Garner acknowledged that she used her “celebrity privilege” to aid WCK’s efforts. “It’s just like you need to do something with your hands,” she said. Then she called Andres to ask if she could help, and he was very welcoming.
