Georgia state senator Colton Moore was shoved and pushed to the ground before being arrested while attempting to enter the state House chamber on Thursday (Jan. 16). Mr. Moore was indefinitely banned from entering the House chamber last year after making controversial statements about the late House Speaker David Ralston, but returned to attend the joint session, which was called by Governor Brian Kemp. After approaching the chamber gate, Mr. Moore encountered a wall of resistance as an attending doorman pushed him back. Unwilling to back down, Mr. Moore said he had a constitutional right to enter and that the doorman should be arrested for breaking the law.
A clash ensued, with one of the viral videos showing Mr Moore being pushed to the floor by a doorman. He was then handcuffed and taken away by the Georgia State Patrol (GSP) for violating the ban.
The GSP said his troops were forced to intervene when Mr Moore created a disturbance outside the House chamber. He was taken to the Fulton County Jail and charged with willful obstruction of law enforcement officers, a misdemeanor.
“Despite multiple verbal warnings and numerous attempts to deescalate the situation, Senator Moore continued in his efforts to disrupt official proceedings inside the House chamber,” the statement said.
“The unrest escalated when Sen. Moore pushed the soldiers several times.”
No elected representative should be thrashed on the ground and arrested for discharging his constitutional duty.

“Senator Colton Moore, who exposed and defeated corrupt Fani Willis last year, has been arrested by the anti-Trump speaker of the Georgia House,” Mr. Moore’s office said in a statement.
“Colton is being held in the same Atlanta jail as President Trump. We are working to secure his early release. Please pray for all those who stand up for the freedom and peace of all Georgians. “

A day before the fight, Mr Moore wrote a letter to current House Speaker John Burns explaining why the ban was unconstitutional, while warning that he intended to disrupt Thursday’s joint session.
After being released from jail, Mr. Moore shared a video of himself in the hospital, saying: “Thank you to all the patriots who have shown their support today. I have a constitutional duty and will be back in the legislature tomorrow.”
