Sundar C reflects on not being considered a good director despite consistently producing blockbuster films; ‘I am glad that people…’

Director Sundar C returned to the big screen this year with his long-delayed film Madha Gaja Raja finally releasing 12 years after its initial announcement. Due to the success of the film, the director reflected on why he is not often considered on lists of great directors despite his continued success.

In success meet, beautiful Said, “Despite the appreciation for my films and their continued success as ventures, there is a certain hurdle in my mind. I was never considered a good director and I never got the appreciation I deserve for my work.”

He further said, “Even though I have given so many hit films, I have never been included in the list of such directors. For me, cinema is a business venture where many people are investing their hard-earned money. My audience is also spending a large part of their time watching my films. I always want my audience to be happy. I am happy that people are happy with my work and I consider them my God.”

While acknowledging his label as a “commercial cinema” director, Sundar C also reflected on his acceptance of this category. Musician Vijay Antony, who was present at the event, praised the director and highlighted how films Madh Gaj Raja Theaters got help during Pongal 2025. He also pointed out that Aranmanai 4 (released in 2024) played an important role in reviving the theater business.

Additionally, Vijay Antony commented how Sundar C’s legacy will always be defined by his work on a masterpiece like Ambe Shivam.
