Ramayana co-creator Koichi wants Indians to call it their favorite version of the epic
The iconic animated film, Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Ram, is set to be re-released in theaters with enhanced 4K visuals and new voices. The film’s Japanese co-producer, Koichi Sasaki, hopes it will become India’s favorite version of the epic.

A film is not just about visuals. A film shines only through good and lively dialogues. The sound of this film was 100% created in India. I think it’s a wonderful sound of the best of India. I can’t help but respect many musicians and actors of India.”
He further said, I would be very happy if many people in India think, ‘This is my favorite Ramayana!’

This film occupies a prominent place In the illustrious filmography of late Indian animator Ram Mohan. His son Karthik Mohan described it as “an epic undertaking”, noting that its theatrical release in India would be “a landmark achievement in the cinematic history of both India and Japan”.
He also said, “As the son of Shri Ram Mohan, I can only say that I wish my father were alive to see this moment – in a long and illustrious career, it would have been one of his proudest “
The film was conceived by the late Japanese filmmaker Yugo Saeko, who was attracted to the epic during one of his visits to India. Hanuman flying in the air, uprooting a mountain, the bravery of Garuda, the bravery of Ram and Lakshman, the epic fight fought by them, these things thrilled me. They are the stuff of universal myth, the fabric of legend,” Sacco said in an earlier interview.
Legendary composer Vanraj Bhatia composed the film’s iconic music.
Ramayan: The Legend of Prince Ram will be distributed theatrically in India by Geek Pictures India in association with AA Films and Excel Entertainment. The film is set for 4K release on January 24, 2025 in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
