The Redmi 14C 5G is a ₹10K phone, which is claimed to have the most efficient 4nm chipset in the segment and the largest 120Hz display. And it also has big shoes to fill, as it’s the successor to the top 5G phone in India in H1 2024 (in terms of shipments, data by Canalys).

Let’s start from the top. The Redmi 14C 5G will go on sale on January 10 (this Friday) with a base price of ₹10,000 – this is for the 4/64GB model. Upgrade options available are 4/128GB for ₹11,000 and 6/128GB for ₹12,000.

The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2, which is the first 4nm chip in the 4-series. It has two Cortex-A78 cores (2.2GHz) and six A55 (1.95GHz), an Adreno 613 GPU and an X61 modem with dual 5G support and downlink speeds of up to 2.5Gbps. It is paired with 4/6GB LPDDR4X RAM and 64/128GB UFS 2.2 storage. The latter is expandable with a microSD card up to 1 TB with a dedicated slot (so you can still use two SIM cards).

The IPS LCD on the front has gotten bigger and sharper – it’s now a 6.88″ panel with a 120Hz refresh rate (up from 6.74″ at 90Hz) – however, it still only has HD+ resolution.

The camera system hasn’t seen much of an upgrade, it still features a 50MP main and a secondary one on the back. The selfie camera gets a new 8MP sensor (up from 5MP), but video recording for both is limited to 1080p @ 30fps.

The 14C retains the 3.5 mm headphone jack and its single loudspeaker is 50% louder than the previous model’s speaker.

The phone comes in three colors: Starlight Blue, which weighs 205 grams, as well as Stardust Purple and Stargaze Black, which are heavier at 212 grams. The difference is due to the “glass back design” on the latter two.

Anyway, the weight at 205 grams is more than the 2024 phone, but the new one comes with a slightly larger 5,160mAh battery (up by 160mAh). The battery is rated for 1,000 cycles. Charging is still limited to 18W, but you get a 33W charger in the box that you can also use with your other USB-C compatible gadgets (which will soon be all of them). The body is rated IP52 for basic splash resistance.

The Redmi 14C 5G can be found on the Xiaomi India site and you can sign up for a reminder when it launches on Friday. The phone comes with HyperOS based on Android 14 out of the box and will get software support for 2 years and security patches for 4 years.
